Shhhhhh don't tell anybody that they mentioned doing something to 'one' school that wasn't as old as the ones anybody has been talking about or they might think you're against it

IMO, outdated technology is outdated technology regardless of how outdated it is. Whether it's a cassette deck or an 8 track player, it can be replaced with a cd player or an ipod

If you are stripping a building down to the bare bones to remodel, the only thing required to have the same effect is a solid foundation and infrastructure.

Wow you mean that they can do all that in the 6 weeks or so the schools will be closed in the summer?

Who said you have to put a time limit on it? Norton Elementary wasn't done entirely when school was closed either. If they can remove asbestos during the school year with students present, surely to god they could remodel one section by section.

Exactly, that logic escapes so many it amazes me. We're talking upkeep/costs of SIX schools on a budget, when enrollment is horrible. NES was never in bad shape at all as I can remember, never seemed old, they just added on to it with the middle school and upgraded the classrooms(so no real huge project that would effect other classrooms)- not too mention this is a elementary school, the circular and technology demands aren't really there as compared to a HS.

Yet again, another huge flaw in their argument. Remodeling, if it were even feasible or logical, would take a massive amount of time and where are the kids going to go or how long would they have to put up with construction in the school during class session? Not a problem with new schools, hell I don't even know why this is even a debate...new schools or dressed up old schools for around the same price? Better educational opportunities and millions saved or same problems and costs piling up? Hmmmm.

NES went after labor day for 2 years so summers would be longer to help the construction. A lot of work was done during the year while school was going on as you said.

I can't remember what the figure was for the remodel of the Elementary School, $9 Million is the number that sticks in my head but I am not 100% sure on that.

my daughter started at Norton Elementary the year they started the construction and remodel. to say there wasnt' much interuption would be an understatement. When they got most of the gym finished they moved the whole lower classes into the gym with makeshift walls so they could start to remodel the lower end. finished the upper grades through the summer to they kept the interuption to as minimal as they could but still it was something to watch come together.

on anothe note, for some reason I always thought they removed the asbestos years ago when they actually added real walls to make classrooms
